Manage Google Activity Controls
If you have not touched the Activity controls on your Oppo phone, Google keeps logging Web & App Activity, location history, YouTube history and more under the Google Account you are signed into. This tracking runs in the background and is not obvious from the main Settings screen. Left untouched, it builds a detailed profile of what you search, watch and where you go.
Clear the Entire Call Log
If your Oppo call list keeps piling up with old numbers, missed calls, and duplicate entries, finding a recent call becomes harder every week. Since the Call history screen mixes calls and messages together, a full log can make it tricky to spot what actually matters. Clearing it out gives you a clean list again without touching your saved contacts.
Change Home Screen Transition Effect
Swiping between home screen pages on your Oppo phone always plays the same sliding animation, even though ColorOS ships with several other transition styles. If the default motion feels plain or you want something like a cube rotation, foil turn, card flip or tilt effect instead, the option is tucked into the home screen settings rather than the main display menu.
Merge Duplicate Contacts
When the same person shows up twice in your Oppo contact list, calls land under one entry while texts go to the other, and you can never tell which number is still current. This usually happens after importing a SIM card, syncing a Google account that already held a copy, or restoring an old backup on top of existing contacts. ColorOS can spot matching names or numbers and combine them into a single record, but it only works if you point it at the right pair first.
Set Up a Privacy Password
If Oppo asks for a privacy password when you try to lock an app or open Private Safe, that code is separate from your screen lock. Many users type in their unlock PIN by mistake and get stuck at the confirmation screen. The privacy password can be its own pattern, PIN, or password.
Number Row On/Off
Typing numbers on the Gboard keyboard normally means holding a key or switching to the symbol page, which slows down anything with PINs, prices or codes. On Oppo phones running Coloros you can pin a dedicated number row above the letters instead. The trade-off is a taller keyboard that leaves less room for the app underneath.
Allow Messages During Do Not Disturb
When Do Not Disturb is active on your Oppo phone, every incoming message stays silent and hidden on the lock screen, even from people you actually want to hear from. Coloros lets you punch a hole in that silence for everyone, only saved contacts, or just your marked favorites. Without this exception set correctly, urgent texts from family or work contacts get buried until you manually check your notifications.
Mute a Single Conversation
Getting constant buzzes from one SMS thread while every other conversation stays quiet? On Oppo phones running Coloros, notifications are managed per conversation, not just for the whole Messages app. Muting only silences that one thread, it does not archive, delete, or block the contact.
Enable or Disable Personal Hotspot
If your Oppo phone won't share mobile data with other devices, the Personal hotspot function under Connection & sharing might be switched off or blocked by a data restriction. Connected phones, tablets, or laptops rely on this Wi-Fi hotspot to get online through your Oppo's data connection. A short auto-off timer or a disabled mobile data connection can also stop the hotspot from working as expected.
Make a Phone Call
Switching between the Phone app and Contacts can be confusing when you just want to dial a number fast on your Oppo device. New users often do not realize there are several ways to start a call, and dual-SIM devices add an extra step that trips people up. This guide walks through the fastest route to get a call connected.
Set Up and Start Screen Recorder
Screen recording on Oppo starts fine from Quick settings, but the actual recording options are hidden away in a separate menu. If you want to capture system sound, add your microphone, or bump up the video resolution before you hit record, the toggle alone will not get you there. Many users only discover the settings after recording a clip with the wrong audio source or a blurry resolution.
Turn Data Roaming On or Off
If your Oppo phone loses mobile data the moment you leave your home network, data roaming is probably switched off. Rename Home Screen Folders
On Oppo phones, a newly created folder automatically takes the name of whichever app category dominates inside it, but that label often gets cut off after 18 characters. Instead of something useful you end up with a chopped-off word like 'Social Medi' sitting on your home screen. Renaming the folder yourself fixes the display without touching which apps are grouped inside it.
Delete a Photo Album
Deleting an album in the Gallery app on Oppo phones only removes the album folder, not the photos and videos inside it right away. If you expected storage to free up instantly, the fact that contents sit in trash for 30 days can be confusing. Knowing what actually happens to your media helps you avoid losing files you still need.
Set Pop-up Window Display Duration
If a pop-up notification disappears before you can react, or stays on screen longer than needed, the display duration set by the app is the reason. On Oppo phones, each app decides how long its pop-up window stays visible unless you override this with a fixed action time. This becomes noticeable with quick system alerts or app confirmations that flash by too fast to read.
Set Up Private Safe
Storing sensitive photos or documents in the regular gallery on your Oppo phone means anyone who unlocks the device can open them too. Coloros includes a Private Safe that keeps selected files behind a separate privacy password, but it stays inactive until you turn it on yourself. Without that extra step, your files sit unprotected next to everything else on the phone.
Turn Overnight Auto-update On or Off
If your Oppo phone applies system updates without asking, overnight auto-update is likely active. It only installs updates while you are not using the device, between 2 and 5 AM, and only downloads them over WLAN. Turning it off keeps every update on hold until you approve it manually.
Set TalkBack Feedback (Vibration & Sound)
Every keystroke triggers a buzz and a beep because TalkBack feedback is turned on by default on Oppo phones. If typing feels noisy or the vibration drains your focus, the Feedback settings inside TalkBack let you tone it down without turning off accessibility support entirely.
Restart the Smartphone
If your Oppo phone lags, apps freeze, or the touchscreen stops responding for no clear reason, a restart often clears the temporary glitch. ColorOS keeps background processes and cached data running between reboots, and over time these can slow the system down. A quick restart clears that memory without deleting your apps or files.
Turn Dial Pad Tone On or Off
On many Oppo phones the keypad stays completely silent when you tap numbers to dial a call. That is the default behavior in ColorOS, not a hardware fault or a muted ringer. If you want audible feedback while dialing, the option sits inside the sound settings and is switched off until you turn it on yourself.
Show or Hide Notifications on Always-On Display
On the Oppo Always-On Display, notifications only appear as small app icons, not as full previews like on the lock screen. If you find these icons distracting or want a cleaner clock screen, you can turn that notification layer off separately from the rest of the Always-On Display.
Auto-Arrange App Icons on the Home Screen
If new apps always land in the next open slot instead of where you tapped, Icon autofill is likely turned on. This ColorOS feature keeps every app icon sorted in reading order, left to right, line by line, and blocks manual placement anywhere else on the home screen. Icons can only move within that fixed order until you turn the feature off.
Turn Next-word Suggestions On or Off
If Gboard keeps guessing the wrong next word or the suggestion bar feels like it slows down typing instead of speeding it up, the Next-word suggestions feature is behind it. It predicts your next word from what you typed before, and a quick tap on the space bar inserts that guess automatically.
Auto Update-Download: Turn On or Off
If your Oppo keeps pulling software updates over mobile data and chewing through your plan, the Auto download setting is usually the reason. This option decides whether updates get fetched automatically in the background and which network is allowed to do it, separately from whether the update actually gets installed.
