Add Widgets to the Home Screen
If your Oppo home screen only shows app icons and folders, you are missing widgets that display live info like weather, calendar events, or battery status. Many users never spot the widget menu because it does not sit in the regular app drawer. Both system apps and many installed apps offer their own widgets in different sizes.
Change Screen Lock PIN, Password or Pattern
Switching from a pattern to a PIN or picking a fresh password on an Oppo phone does not mean wiping the lock screen and starting over. Coloros keeps your fingerprint and face data untouched while you swap the unlock method, but the actual option to change it sits one level below the main lock screen menu. Many users only find the reset entry and assume they have to set up biometrics again.
Turn Vibrate on Touch On or Off
If your Oppo phone buzzes every time you tap the navigation bar, open a menu, or dial a number, the touch feedback vibration is switched on. This system-wide haptic response can feel excessive on Coloros, especially when it triggers during simple actions like scrolling through settings or answering calls. You can turn it off without changing your ringtone or notification vibration settings.
Turn Auto-capitalization On or Off
If sentences and random words get capitalized automatically while you type, Gboard's auto-capitalization is switched on and reacting to every full stop or new line. On Oppo phones this text correction option often catches names, abbreviations or chat messages where you want a lowercase start. Turning it off stops Gboard from capitalizing the first letter after punctuation and at the beginning of each sentence.
Turn Google Voice Typing On or Off
If a microphone icon keeps showing up on your Oppo keyboard even though you never asked for voice input, Google voice typing is active by default under ColorOS. It sits inside the keyboard settings alongside your regular input method, so many users only notice it once they tap it by accident. You can switch it off there, or turn it back on if speech input disappeared after an update.
Change Preferred Network Type
If your Oppo phone keeps dropping back to a slower connection or refuses to lock onto 5G, the Preferred network type setting is usually the reason. This option tells the modem which network generation to search for first, and a wrong choice leads to dropped calls, sluggish data, or a missing 5G icon. The available options depend on your device model and what your carrier actually supports.
Set a Custom Ringtone
If the built-in ringtone list feels too limited or you cannot find the option to use your own audio file, ColorOS often buries this setting inside the Sound menu instead of the main Ringtone screen. On dual SIM devices the confusion gets worse, because each SIM card needs its own ringtone assigned separately. Picking a random music file from your gallery app or file manager usually will not apply it as a ringtone either.
Show or Hide RAM Info in Recent Tasks
When you swipe through open apps on your Oppo phone, the Recent tasks screen only shows app previews by default, with no memory data at all. If you want to see how much RAM is currently in use without opening a separate app or tool, that information stays hidden until you switch it on in Coloros.
Enable Mobile Data During Calls on Secondary SIM
If your internet drops the moment you pick up a call on your primary SIM, the secondary SIM's mobile data connection is probably not allowed to take over. On dual-SIM Oppo phones this behavior is controlled separately from your normal data SIM selection, so browsing can stall mid-call even though you have a working data plan on the other slot.
Schedule Power On/Off
If you want your Oppo phone to turn on or off at a fixed time every day without pressing the power button, ColorOS has a built-in scheduler for that. Many users miss this option because it sits inside a secondary settings menu rather than the main power settings. Without it enabled, you have to manually power the device on and off every single day.
Block Unknown Callers Automatically
If your Oppo phone keeps ringing from numbers that are not saved as contacts, spam calls and unknown callers get through every single time, even at night or during work. ColorOS has a built-in filter for exactly this, but it works differently from a normal blocklist. The setting rejects any caller missing from your address book, with one safety exception for repeat callers.
Screen Timeout Settings
If your Oppo display locks itself after just a few seconds while you are still reading or filling out a form, the screen timeout is set too short for how you use the phone. Coloros applies a default auto screen off value that favors battery savings over convenience. The duration can be raised or lowered anywhere between a few seconds and half an hour.
Customize Smart Sidebar Quick Access
If your Oppo's Smart Sidebar is packed with tools you never open, or missing the one app shortcut you actually need, the Quick access list needs an edit. The sidebar mixes three shortcut types: Quick Tools like screenshot or screen recording, Quick Apps that open in a floating window, and plain App shortcuts. Left unedited, you keep swiping past icons that only get in the way.
Set Dark or Light Theme for the Messages App
If the Messages app on your Oppo phone still shows a bright white background at night, it is running the light theme regardless of your system-wide dark mode setting. Coloros lets you set the theme for Messages on its own, which cuts glare and can lower battery drain on OLED screens. This option sits inside the app itself, not in the general display settings.
Name Format for Call History
If some contacts show up as Lastname Firstname while others read the opposite way in your call history, Oppo is applying a name format that does not match how you saved the contact. This setting controls whether the call log displays first name or last name first, and it can behave differently from the order used in your contacts app. Mixed formats usually come from contacts imported from different sources or accounts.
Enable Face Recognition for App Lock and Private Safe
If Oppo face unlock only works for the lock screen, you might not know it can also protect individual apps and the Private Safe. Many users set up Face once for unlocking the phone and never realize App Lock and Private Safe use a separate toggle in the same menu. Without turning that option on, those areas fall back to a password or pattern even though your face profile already exists.
Stay on the Lock Screen After Face Unlock
When you press the power button on an Oppo phone, Face unlock often skips the lock screen entirely and drops you straight onto the home screen. That means you never get to check notifications, the clock, or widgets before the phone unlocks. The setting responsible for this behavior sits inside the Face recognition options and is easy to miss.
Enable Vibration in Silent Mode

If you type in more than one language, the default Gboard setup only offers your phone's system language and blocks you from typing accented characters or a different script. Switching the whole system language just to write a message is not necessary. Gboard can hold several languages at once and let you switch between them while typing.
Accessibility Menu: Enable or Disable
If you don't see a small round shortcut icon in your navigation bar, the Accessibility Menu on your Oppo phone is switched off. This menu gives quick access to frequently used apps and system functions without digging through several screens. It's especially useful for older users or anyone who wants fewer taps to reach common actions.
Change Notification Sound
If every app on your Oppo phone plays the same generic tone for new messages, emails, and app alerts, it gets hard to tell them apart without checking the screen. Coloros uses one shared default notification sound for most apps, while the Phone and Messages apps keep their own separate tone settings. Swapping this default tone is done once in the sound settings instead of inside each app.
Forget a Saved Wi-Fi Network
If your Oppo phone keeps reconnecting to an old Wi-Fi network with a wrong password or a router you no longer use, it is still sitting in the saved network list. ColorOS holds on to every network you have ever joined until you remove it yourself, which can cause slow reconnects or a jump to the wrong access point when two networks share a similar name.
Disable Mirror Effect for Front Camera Selfies
Selfies taken with the front camera on Oppo phones often come out mirrored, so text and logos appear backwards and your face looks flipped compared to how others actually see you. This happens because the camera saves the photo exactly as shown in the live preview instead of correcting the flip. The Flip Selfie setting controls this behavior, but it sits inside the advanced camera settings and is easy to overlook.
Volume Key Shortcut for Accessibility Features
If you rely on a specific accessibility feature every day, digging through menus each time to turn it on or off gets tedious fast. Oppo phones running Coloros let you trigger that feature directly with the volume keys, but the shortcut only works once it has been linked to a function and switched on. Until then, pressing volume up and down together does nothing.
