App Update Dots: Show or Hide
If a small dot suddenly shows up next to an app icon on your home screen after an update, that is the built-in app update indicator in Realme UI. Some people find it useful as a quick reminder, others just see it as clutter on an otherwise clean home screen. The toggle for this dot is easy to miss because it lives under general home screen options rather than inside app settings.
Turn Captions On or Off
If captions do not show up in videos, calls, or voice messages on your Realme phone, the system-wide caption feature in Accessibility is probably turned off. Realme UI lets you enable captions everywhere and pick a style such as white on black, black on white, or yellow lettering so dialogue stays readable regardless of the app you are using.
Turn On/Off Spell Check
Autocorrect on your Realme phone silently rewrites typos while you type, but it does not flag words it is unsure about. Spell check works differently: it underlines suspicious words in red instead of changing them, so you decide how to fix a mistake. If the red underlining feels distracting, or you rely on it and it has disappeared, the setting lives inside the keyboard app, not the general typing menu.

Change Default Messages App
If texts open in the wrong app or notifications never show up where expected, Realme UI is still pointing to an old default SMS app. Switching to a different messaging app changes design, notification handling and features like spam filtering or RCS chat. Apps downloaded from the Play Store need to be set manually before they take over as the default handler for SMS.
Auto Call for Emergency Services Number
If your Realme phone does not dial for help when you rapidly press the power button, the Auto call emergency services number option is probably switched off or missing a saved number. This setting controls whether Emergency SOS places a call on its own after the 3-second countdown, and it only works once a default number is stored.
Set Pop-up Display Duration
If pop-up notifications or app prompts vanish before you can tap a button, the display duration is set too short. Realme UI controls this globally through an accessibility timer, not per app. Adjusting it gives you more time to read and react to on-screen messages.
Change the Home Screen Swipe-Down Gesture
Swipe down on an empty spot of your Realme home screen and you get app or content search when you actually wanted the notification drawer to open - or the other way round. This single home screen setting decides which action runs, and mixing it up with the status bar swipe is a common source of confusion.
Set Date and Time Automatically
If your Realme phone shows the wrong date or time, it usually pulls that data straight from the mobile network and keeps overwriting anything you change by hand. Before you can set your own date or time, you first need to switch off the automatic sync in the system settings. You can turn it back on again at any point without losing other settings.
Adjust Smart Sidebar Opacity
When the Smart Sidebar floating bar sits on top of an app, the home screen, or a submenu, it can cover buttons, text, or icons you actually need. On Realme phones this happens because the floating bar renders at full opacity by default, no matter what is showing behind it. Lowering the transparency keeps quick access to the sidebar without losing sight of the content underneath.
Turn Off Screen Lock
Removing the screen lock on your Realme phone drops the pattern, PIN, or password barrier that guards your home screen. You still have to enter your current unlock method once before the change goes through. Once it is off, anyone who picks up the phone gets straight access to apps, messages, and photos.

Typing a password or address on your Realme phone often means switching back and forth to the number pad just for a single digit. That extra tap slows down every message with dates, codes or amounts. A hidden Gboard setting adds a permanent row of digits above the letters so you never leave the main keyboard layout.
