Realme: Change App Download Preference in Play Store

On a Realme phone, the Play Store only fetches new apps and updates over Wi-Fi by default. If you are on the road without Wi-Fi, downloads simply stall until a network is found. This behavior comes from a separate network preference inside your Play Store account settings, not from the phone's general data saver.

Set App Download Preference auf Realme

By default, the Google Play Store on a Realme phone downloads apps and updates only when connected to Wi-Fi. This protects your mobile data plan but also means downloads pause completely once you leave a Wi-Fi network, even if you have plenty of mobile data left.

This behavior is not controlled by the phone's system settings or by Realme UI itself. It sits inside the Play Store app, tied to your Google account, and applies across all Android phones running the same Play Store version.

To change it, open Play Store and tap your Google account icon. Go to Settings, then Network preferences, and tap on App download preference. Here you get three options: download only over Wi-Fi, allow downloads over mobile data as well, or get asked before every download regardless of connection type. Pick the option you want and tap Done to save it.

If you regularly install apps while away from Wi-Fi, switching to mobile data or the ask-every-time option saves you from delayed installs. Keep in mind that allowing downloads over mobile data can use up your data plan quickly, especially with larger app updates, so the ask-first option is a safer middle ground for limited data plans.
