Realme: Activate a Downloaded Keyboard

Installed a new keyboard app from the Google Play Store but it never shows up when you tap the input field? On Realme UI, a downloaded keyboard installs onto the phone but stays switched off until you enable it yourself in the keyboard settings. Until that happens, the system keeps falling back to the default keyboard no matter how often you tap the keyboard-switch icon.

Add a Downloaded Keyboard auf Realme

Realme UI treats every keyboard app from the Google Play Store as an inactive add-on right after installation. The app sits on the phone, but Android blocks it from appearing as an input option until it gets a manual permission grant. That grant happens in a separate menu, not inside the keyboard app itself, which is why many downloaded keyboards seem to disappear after setup.

To turn the keyboard on, open Tap on SettingsTap on Additional settingsTap on Keyboard & input methodTap on Manage keyboards. Here every installed keyboard app is listed with a toggle. Use Turn On a Downloaded keyboard to enable the one you just installed, then confirm with Tap on Activate when the system asks for input access permission.

Once activated, the keyboard becomes selectable through the usual keyboard-switch icon on the input bar, but it does not automatically become the default. If typing still opens the old keyboard, check the default input method separately in the same settings area.

Skip this activation step if the keyboard app already appeared during its own first-launch setup wizard, since some apps handle the permission request internally.

Frequently asked questions

Realme UI keeps every newly installed keyboard app disabled by default for security reasons. It only becomes selectable after you enable it manually under Tap on SettingsTap on Additional settingsTap on Keyboard & input methodTap on Manage keyboards.
