Unused designs from the Galaxy Store keep taking up storage even when you never open them again. Some themes only need a few MB, but several installed at once add up fast on devices with limited space. Removing the ones you no longer use frees up memory without losing access to them for good.
Add a Photo to a Contact
If a contact still shows only the first letter of the name or one of the animated default images that come with your Samsung device, calls and messages look generic instead of personal. This happens because no custom photo has been assigned to that contact yet. Swapping in your own picture makes the caller instantly recognizable on the call screen and in Messages.
Turn On or Off the Eye Comfort Shield (Blue Light Filter)
If your Samsung screen still feels harsh on your eyes after dark or you struggle to fall asleep after scrolling before bed, the Eye comfort shield is probably switched off or set too weak. This built-in filter cuts the blue light your display emits, but its schedule and intensity settings are easy to overlook. Pin a Conversation to the Top of Messages
When you text a lot of people, your most important chats can get buried fast because the Messages app sorts everything by time, newest on top. Turn On Birthday Reminders in the Calendar
Samsung Calendar shows birthdays pulled from your contacts, but it stays silent when one is coming up. No notification pops up on the day itself or beforehand, so birthdays slip by unnoticed unless you check the calendar manually. The alert for this feature is hidden separately from your other calendar notifications.
Turn On/Off Message Delivery Reports
If you send a text message and never see a confirmation that it arrived, delivery reports are probably switched off on your Samsung phone. This status, called Show when delivered, marks the exact moment the recipient's device receives your message. Carriers process this confirmation without extra charge in almost all cases.
Enable Face Recognition Unlock
Registered your face on your Samsung phone but the lock screen still asks for a PIN or pattern? Face data alone does not turn on face unlock - the feature stays off by default even after enrollment. You need to switch it on separately before it works as an unlock method.
Keyboard Language Switching Method
If swiping the space bar keeps switching your keyboard language mid-sentence, or the dedicated language key seems to do nothing, the Samsung Keyboard is set to a switching method that does not match how you type. Samsung gives you three separate ways to jump between installed languages, and the wrong one causes accidental switches or a key that appears broken. Picking the right method stops the keyboard from changing language on its own while you are writing.
Add Members to a Contact Group
Adding a new contact to an existing group is not obvious in Samsung Contacts, since the group screen looks read-only until you switch into edit mode. This mainly trips people up when they add contacts after a group already exists.
Change Mobile Hotspot Wi-Fi Band
When several devices crowd the same Wi-Fi channel, your Samsung hotspot connection can slow down noticeably. Switching the mobile hotspot band lets you pick a less congested frequency, but the option disappears if Wi-Fi sharing is turned on.
Number Row on Samsung Keyboard
If your Samsung keyboard suddenly shows a full row of digits above the letters, or that row is missing and you have to tap and hold a letter until a popup with the number appears, the number row layout has been switched. This setting decides whether typing numbers takes one tap or a tap-and-hold, and it changes how much space the keyboard takes up on screen.
Add an App to Do Not Disturb Exceptions
If WhatsApp calls or Facebook messages stay silent while Do Not Disturb is active, the app is not listed as an exception yet. Samsung mutes every notification by default once the mode is on, even from apps you consider urgent. Adding the app to the exception list lets its alerts pass through regardless of the mode.
Turn Speak Passwords On or Off in TalkBack
TalkBack normally reads every letter you type aloud, but password fields are treated differently and stay silent by default. If you want TalkBack to announce password characters too, that behavior is hidden behind a separate switch in the TalkBack settings.
Find Apps and Files with Samsung Finder Search
Scrolling through folders on the home screen or app drawer to find one app can take longer than just typing its name. When Finder search is not your default habit, you end up swiping through pages instead of getting instant results, including files stored in your phone's memory and not only installed apps.
Turn Open-Eyes Requirement for Face Recognition On or Off
If your Samsung phone unlocks with Face recognition even when your eyes are closed, the open-eyes requirement is probably switched off. On some devices it works the other way around, and the phone refuses to unlock unless your eyes are wide open, which gets annoying if you wear glasses or are half asleep. Enlarge the Mouse Pointer
Once you connect a mouse or touchpad to your Samsung device, the on-screen pointer often stays tiny and hard to track, especially on larger displays. Change Auto-lock Time

Adjusting that delay changes how long the phone stays unlocked before it demands your credentials again.
Remove Face Recognition Data
If facial unlock keeps failing or you no longer want your phone to recognize your face, the stored face data is still sitting in Biometrics and security. Beard changes, glasses, or a general preference for PIN unlock can make this scan outdated. Removing it disables Face Unlock until you set it up again.
Turn On/Off App Drawer
If your Samsung Home screen only shows a handful of app icons while everything else stays tucked away behind a swipe-up gesture, the App Drawer layout is active. Some users find it faster to have every installed app sitting directly on the Home screen instead of opening a separate overview. Switching between these two layouts changes how One UI organizes and displays your apps.
Auto-Punctuate on Double Space Tap
Double-tapping the space bar on a Samsung keyboard sometimes adds a period automatically, sometimes it doesn't, and that inconsistency throws off your typing rhythm. This behavior depends on a keyboard setting called 'Double tap space bar to add period', which is turned off by default. Whether the shortcut works for you or not, this one setting is the reason.
Turn Lock Instantly with Side Key On or Off
If your Samsung locks the moment you press the side key, but the screen also re-locks itself after a short delay once you turn it back on, two separate settings are working against each other. Lock instantly with Side key forces an immediate lock on every power button press, while Lock automatically runs its own independent timer. Mixing both can make your device ask for your PIN, pattern or password far more often than you expect.
Turn On/Off Auto Spell Check
If Auto spell check only underlines a word in red instead of fixing it, the Samsung keyboard is working as intended, not broken. The feature suggests a correction you accept by continuing to type, it never rewrites text on its own. On many devices this option is switched off from the start, which is why typos stay unmarked until you enable it.
Turn On/Off Device Administrators
If an app suddenly refuses to uninstall or keeps warning that it needs deeper access to your Samsung phone, it has likely been granted device administrator rights. Security apps such as antivirus or Find My Device tools, and parental control apps like Child Account, rely on this permission to lock settings, wipe data, or block uninstalls. Without checking this list, you can end up stuck with an app you no longer trust having full control over your device.
