Samsung: Add a Speed Dial Number for Faster Calling

Typing the same number every time you call a frequent contact wastes time, and many Samsung users are surprised that slot 1 is permanently blocked for voicemail. Speed dial can hold up to 999 shortcuts, using either a saved contact or a raw phone number, but the setup screen sits in a spot most people never check. Skipping this feature means dialing manually every single time.

Add a Speed Dial Number auf Samsung

Speed dial on Samsung phones assigns a short number key to a contact or phone number, so you skip searching your call log or contact list. The feature is built into the Phone app itself, not into a separate dialer setting, which is why it often goes unnoticed.

Slot number 1 is reserved permanently for voicemail and cannot be reassigned. Every other slot from 2 up to 999 can hold either a saved contact or a phone number you type manually. This means people without a saved contact can still add a shortcut for a number they call often, like a delivery service or a shared line.

To add one, go to Tap on PhoneOpen the MenuTap on Speed dial numbersEnter a Phone number or choose a ContactTap on Back. The new shortcut appears in the speed dial list right away and works from the dial pad by pressing and holding the assigned number.

If you manage many contacts across shared devices, speed dial is less useful than favorites or the recent call list, since numbers can shift positions as you add or remove entries. Check your existing slots before assigning a new one to avoid overwriting a number you still need.

Frequently asked questions

Slot 1 is fixed by the system for voicemail access and cannot be changed, so the first available slot for a custom shortcut starts at number 2.
