Activate a Downloaded Keyboard
A new keyboard from the Play Store shows up as installed but never appears as an option when you try to switch input methods. Samsung keeps every keyboard disabled by default until you turn it on in the keyboard management settings. Without this step, the downloaded keyboard stays invisible even though it is already on your phone.
Add a Fingerprint on Samsung
Trying to unlock your Samsung phone with your fingerprint but the option in Settings stays greyed out? Samsung always requires a backup PIN, password, or pattern before the Fingerprints menu becomes available. Without that secondary lock set first, you cannot enrol a new fingerprint at all.
Add a Keyboard Language
Your Samsung keyboard only offers the system language by default, so a German-language phone types German everywhere, even in messages you want to write in English or another language. Switching between alphabets or typing foreign words forces constant autocorrect fights. The fix sits in the Samsung Keyboard settings, but the option to add extra input languages is buried several menus deep and easy to miss.
Add a New Contact
Typing a number straight into the dialer only leaves it in your call log, not in your address book. If you clear that history or set up a new phone, the number is gone for good. The Samsung Contacts app is the only place that permanently stores a name together with a phone number and any extra details you add.
Add a New Home Screen Page
Running out of room for icons and widgets on your Samsung home screen? New pages usually appear automatically once an existing page fills up, but that does not always happen. If Samsung One UI stops creating pages on its own, you need to add one manually to keep organizing apps and widgets.
Add a Photo to a Contact
If a contact still shows only the first letter of the name or one of the animated default images that come with your Samsung device, calls and messages look generic instead of personal. This happens because no custom photo has been assigned to that contact yet. Swapping in your own picture makes the caller instantly recognizable on the call screen and in Messages.
Add a Printer by IP Address
If a printer never shows up in Samsung's Default Print Service, that model is likely not supported by the built-in driver list. Without a manual entry, print jobs simply fail or the printer never appears as an option. This mostly affects office, network, and older printers that the standard service does not recognize automatically.
Add a Speed Dial Number
Typing the same number every time you call a frequent contact wastes time, and many Samsung users are surprised that slot 1 is permanently blocked for voicemail. Speed dial can hold up to 999 shortcuts, using either a saved contact or a raw phone number, but the setup screen sits in a spot most people never check. Skipping this feature means dialing manually every single time.
Add a Wi-Fi Network Manually
If your router does not appear in the Wi-Fi list, it usually means the network is hidden and not broadcasting its name. In that case you have to add it by hand using the exact SSID and, if the network is secured, the correct password. A typo in either field is the most common reason the connection still fails afterward.
Add Alarm Widget to Home Screen
Checking whether tomorrow's alarm is still active means opening the Clock app every time, even for a quick glance. Samsung's Alarm widget puts a single alarm directly on your Home screen, so you can switch it on or off and see the time without unlocking into the app. Each widget only tracks one alarm, so multiple alarms need one widget each.
Add an Account to Calendar
If your appointments, birthdays or tasks from Google or Exchange are missing in the Calendar app, the account simply has not been linked yet. Samsung Calendar only shows data that is stored on your phone or connected through a synced account, so an unlinked account leaves whole calendars empty.
Add an Alternate Calendar
If dates on your Samsung calendar don't match the Lunar, Hijri, or Shamsi calendar you expected, the alternate calendar option is probably switched off. Samsung's Calendar app can show a second calendar system in smaller text next to the standard dates, but it stays hidden until you set it manually in Settings. This affects the Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese Lunar calendars as well as Hijri and Shamsi dates.
Add an Alternative Face Look
Face unlock on Samsung phones can fail the moment your look changes, whether that means a new beard, glasses, a hat, or heavy makeup. One stored face profile often is not enough to cover these day-to-day differences. Samsung lets you register a second face profile so the system recognizes you under different conditions.
Add an App to Do Not Disturb Exceptions
If WhatsApp calls or Facebook messages stay silent while Do Not Disturb is active, the app is not listed as an exception yet. Samsung mutes every notification by default once the mode is on, even from apps you consider urgent. Adding the app to the exception list lets its alerts pass through regardless of the mode.

If your T-Online, Web.de or GMX address isn't showing up next to Gmail on your Samsung phone, it hasn't been linked through the right protocol yet. Samsung phones rely on the Gmail app as a collective inbox, but external providers only connect through POP3 or IMAP. Picking the wrong option here is why mail sometimes never arrives.
Add App Shortcut to Home Screen
When App Overview is turned on, new apps stop landing on your home screen automatically. That means some tools sit buried in the app drawer where you have to search for them every time you want to open them. Adding a shortcut manually solves that without changing any other home screen settings.
Add Apps to a Home Screen Folder
Once a folder sits on your Home Screen, dragging in one app at a time gets tedious fast. If you need to move several apps into the same folder, dragging each one individually wastes time and often fails when your fingers overlap icons. Samsung includes a faster method through the folder edit menu that handles multiple apps in a single pass.
Add Apps to Secure Folder
Apps you drop directly into Secure Folder often seem to vanish - they never turn up in the regular app list or in your device settings. That is expected: Secure Folder keeps its content in a separate, Knox-protected space, so an app can exist twice on the same phone without either copy sharing data.
Add Birthday to a Contact
If a friend's contact card in Samsung Contacts has no space for a birthday, the field is not missing - it is just hidden by default. Samsung keeps birthday, anniversary and other important dates tucked away behind an extra menu step, so most people never notice it exists. Once you know where to look, adding the date takes only a few taps.
Add Bookmark Shortcut to Home Screen
If you open the same website every day, digging through saved bookmarks in Samsung Internet gets old fast. Pinning that page to your home screen turns it into a tappable icon, right next to your apps, that you can move or drop into a folder like any other shortcut.
Add Emergency Contacts
If your phone is locked during an emergency, nobody can reach the people you trust unless they are saved as emergency contacts. Samsung ties this list to your Contacts profile, not to your regular address book, so numbers you already have saved will not show up on their own. Without this setup, SOS messages and lock-screen emergency calls have nobody to go to.
Add Emergency Medical Info to Contacts
If first responders can't tell rescue workers about allergies, medications or blood type, critical seconds get lost during an emergency. Samsung phones let you store this medical information directly in your Contacts profile, but many users never find where to enter it. The data lives outside your regular contact card and stays visible even when the phone is locked.
Add Members to a Contact Group
Adding a new contact to an existing group is not obvious in Samsung Contacts, since the group screen looks read-only until you switch into edit mode. Miss that step and the new contact stays outside the group, so it never receives group messages or shows up for group calls. This mainly trips people up when they add contacts after a group already exists.
Add New Apps to the Home Screen Automatically
After installing a new app, you check your Home screen and find nothing there. The app only shows up in the App Overview, which means an extra step every time you want to use it. This happens because the automatic Home screen placement option is turned off by default on Samsung devices.
