Samsung: Add New Apps to the Home Screen Automatically

After installing a new app, you check your Home screen and find nothing there. The app only shows up in the App Overview, which means an extra step every time you want to use it. This happens because the automatic Home screen placement option is turned off by default on Samsung devices.

Add New Apps to the Home Screen Automatically auf Samsung

On Samsung devices running One UI, freshly installed apps land only in the App Overview by default. You have to swipe through the app list, find the icon, and manually drag it to the Home screen if you want quick access. This behavior is controlled by a single Home screen setting that is disabled out of the box.

Once you enable it, every app you install afterward gets its shortcut placed on the Home screen automatically. This does not affect apps already installed before you change the setting, and it does not move or rearrange existing icons.

To switch it on, go to Tap on SettingsTap on Home screenEnable or disable Add new apps to Home screen. Toggling this option on tells the launcher to place new app icons automatically going forward.

If your Home screen already feels crowded, leave this option off and add apps manually only when needed. This keeps your layout tidy without extra maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

No. Turning on Add new apps to Home screen only affects apps you install after the change. Existing apps stay wherever they currently are.
