Samsung: Add an App Shortcut to the Home Screen

When App Overview is turned on, new apps stop landing on your home screen automatically. That means some tools sit buried in the app drawer where you have to search for them every time you want to open them. Adding a shortcut manually solves that without changing any other home screen settings.

Add App Shortcut to Home Screen auf Samsung

On Samsung phones with the App Overview turned on, new apps install directly into the app drawer instead of appearing on the home screen. This keeps the home screen tidy but means you often have to search the drawer for apps you use daily. Adding a shortcut manually gives you full control over which icons show up and where.

To place a shortcut, open the app drawer, then press and hold the icon you want on your home screen. Follow this path: Swipe upwards to open the App drawerTap and hold an App iconTap on Add to Home. The shortcut appears on an empty spot of your current home screen page, and the original app entry in the drawer stays untouched.

This method works for any installed app, including ones from the Galaxy Store or Google Play. If your home screen is already full, Samsung One UI creates a new page automatically to fit the new icon. You can move the shortcut afterward like any other icon, or delete it without affecting the app itself.

Frequently asked questions

No. The app stays in the app drawer. The shortcut on the home screen is a separate icon that opens the same app.
