Auto factory reset lives inside the lock screen security settings and works as a last-resort anti-theft measure on Samsung phones running One UI. After 15 failed attempts to enter your PIN, pattern, or password, the device wipes itself completely, deleting apps, photos, and accounts without warning.
This setting matters if you share your phone with kids, hand it to guests, or reuse a screen lock that is easy to fat-finger. Once triggered, there is no confirmation prompt and no way to stop the countdown after the final incorrect attempt registers.
To check or change the setting, go to Settings ➔ Lock screen ➔ Secure lock settings, then confirm your current pattern, PIN, or password. Inside, you will find the Auto factory reset toggle, which you can switch on or off depending on how much risk you are willing to accept.
Turning it off removes the automatic wipe but leaves your device more exposed if it is lost or stolen, since someone could keep guessing your code indefinitely. Keeping it on protects your data but raises the stakes for anyone who repeatedly mistypes the lock screen credentials, including yourself.
