Samsung: Block a Phone Number for Calls and Messages

Getting repeated calls or texts from the same unknown or unwanted number is more than annoying when your phone keeps ringing at the wrong moment. Samsung phones let you block specific numbers even if they were never saved as a contact. Once a number is on the block list, calls go straight to rejection and messages never reach your inbox.

Block a Phone Number auf Samsung

Unwanted calls or spam texts usually keep coming from the same number, and saving it as a contact just to block it feels unnecessary. Samsung builds a dedicated block list directly into the Phone app, separate from your contacts, so you can add any number manually or pull it from your call history.

Once a number is blocked, One UI silently rejects incoming calls from it and filters out any SMS. You will not see missed-call notifications or message previews for blocked senders, and they get no indication the call was rejected on your end.

Where to find the block list

Open PhoneOpen the MenuTap on SettingsTap on Block numbers. From there choose Recents, Contacts or Add phone number depending on where the number is coming from.

If you pick Add phone number, type the number and tap Add to confirm. The number appears in the list immediately and blocking takes effect right away, no restart needed.

Blocking works for both calls and standard text messages. It does not stop messages sent through third-party apps unless that app has its own blocking feature, so check there too if the contact keeps reaching you through a chat app.

Frequently asked questions

No. The Samsung block list under SettingsBlock numbers only covers native phone calls and SMS/MMS. For apps like WhatsApp or Telegram, you need to block the contact separately inside that app.
