Samsung: Change the Video Recording Resolution

If your videos look pixelated or your storage fills up too fast, the camera might be set to the wrong resolution. Not every Samsung model offers the same options: some stop at FullHD, while others let you record in UltraHD. Picking the right setting depends on what you plan to do with the footage.

Change Video Resolution auf Samsung

Samsung phones ship with different video resolution options depending on the model and camera hardware. Entry-level devices usually support HD and FullHD, while mid-range and flagship models add UltraHD (4K) for sharper detail at the cost of larger file sizes.

The resolution setting lives inside the camera app itself, separate from the general photo settings. You can set the resolution for the rear camera and the front camera independently, so switching one does not affect the other.

How to change it

Open Open the Camera-App and go to Open the Settings. From there, tap on Tap on Rear video size or Front video size, depending on which camera you want to adjust, then select Tap on Resolution. Choose between Choose between UHD, FHD and HD based on the quality and file size you need.

Lower resolutions like HD save storage and are fine for casual clips or quick sharing. FullHD is the common middle ground for most everyday recording. UltraHD delivers the sharpest result but produces much larger files and can push older devices to overheat during long recordings.

If UltraHD is missing from the list, your device likely does not support 4K recording on that camera, and no setting will unlock it.

Frequently asked questions

UltraHD only appears if the camera hardware supports it. On devices without 4K support, the list under Tap on Resolution only shows HD and FHD.
