Samsung: Set Default Storage Location for New Contacts

On Samsung phones running One UI, the Contacts app asks where to save each new entry unless a default storage location is already set. This prompt exists because contacts can be stored on the device, on a SIM card, or synced to an account like Samsung Cloud or Google. Without a fixed default, the app keeps asking so you do not accidentally save contacts to the wrong place.

Setting a default location removes that extra tap for every new contact. It is useful if you consistently save to the same account and do not need to choose per entry anymore.

How to set the default storage location

Open the Contacts app, then tap on Contacts to reach the contact list. Open the Menu, then tap on Manage contacts. From there, tap on Set default storage location and pick the account or storage you want new contacts to save to by default.

Once saved, every new contact you create goes straight to that location without a pop-up. If you later want the app to ask again for each new contact, or need to switch to a different account, you can return to the same menu and change the setting.

This option matters most if you juggle multiple accounts, for example a personal Google account and a work account, since picking the wrong default can scatter contacts across places you did not intend. Check the setting first if new contacts seem to disappear from the list you expect them in.
