Samsung: Turn On Suspicious Network Detection for Wi-Fi

Connecting to a public Wi-Fi hotspot at a cafe or airport can quietly redirect your traffic through a rogue captive portal without any warning on screen. Samsung devices include a background check that flags this kind of suspicious network behavior, but the toggle for it is easy to miss and sometimes gets switched off during a reset. If the feature is disabled, your phone stays silent even when a network tries to intercept requests.

Enable Suspicious Network Detection for Wi-Fi auf Samsung

Open Wi-Fi networks at airports, hotels, or cafes sometimes reroute your traffic through a captive portal before granting internet access. In most cases this is harmless, but it can also be used to intercept requests or push you toward a fake login page. Samsung built a background check into One UI that watches for this pattern and sends a notification when a connected network behaves suspiciously.

This detection runs quietly and does not block the connection on its own. It only alerts you, so you can decide whether to stay connected or switch networks. If the toggle is off, your phone will not warn you about redirects or unusual requests, even on networks that clearly misbehave.

To check or change the setting, go to Tap on SettingsTap on ConnectionsTap on Wi-FiOpen the MenuTap on AdvancedEnable or disable Detect suspicious networks.

Turning this off can be useful on networks that legitimately use redirects, such as hotel login pages that repeatedly trigger false alerts. For everyday use on unfamiliar networks, keeping it enabled is the safer default since it adds no noticeable battery or performance cost.

Frequently asked questions

No. This toggle only controls alerts about redirect and request-interception behavior. Other Wi-Fi notifications, like weak signal or no-internet warnings, come from separate system functions.
