Samsung: Hide or Unhide Albums in Gallery

When apps like messaging, social media, or cloud backups create extra folders in your Gallery, the album list gets cluttered fast. These auto-generated albums often hold screenshots, downloads, or app-specific media you never meant to scroll through daily. Samsung Gallery lets you hide those albums from the overview without deleting any photos or videos inside them.

Hide or Unhide Gallery Albums auf Samsung

New albums in your Gallery usually come from apps, not from you. Messaging tools, social media, screen recorders, and browser downloads each create their own folder the moment they save media, and Samsung Gallery displays every one of these by default.

The hiding function does not delete or move anything. It only removes the album tile from the main Albums view while keeping the files in their original storage location. That means hidden content still counts toward your device storage and still appears in apps like Google Photos if those apps scan the full media library.

To hide or unhide an album, open Gallery and go to Albums. Open the Menu, then tap Hide or unhide albums. From the list, turn the switch On or Off next to any album to hide or unhide it, then confirm to apply the change.

If you want to hide single photos instead of whole albums, use the Gallery's own move-to-private option on individual items rather than this album-level switch. If an album keeps reappearing after you hide it, the source app is likely still generating new files inside it, which recreates the folder on the next capture.

Frequently asked questions

No. Hiding only removes the album tile from the Albums overview. Every photo and video stays on your device and can be restored by unhiding the album through the same Hide or unhide albums menu.
