Samsung: Show Passwords While Typing

On Samsung phones, each password character flashes briefly on screen before turning into an asterisk. That preview helps you catch typos, but it also means anyone glancing at your display can read the character. Some users prefer to switch that flash off entirely so nothing ever appears on screen.

Show Passwords While Typing auf Samsung

Samsung briefly shows each password character before masking it with an asterisk. That flash comes from a system option called Make passwords visible, part of the input framework built into One UI. It exists so you can catch typos on long passwords without unmasking the whole field.

The option sits inside the security menu rather than the keyboard settings, because it affects every password field on the device, not just one app. To reach it, go to Tap on SettingsTap on Biometrics and securityTap on Other security settingsEnable or disable Make passwords visible. Turning the toggle off removes the visible flash immediately; turning it back on restores the preview.

Disabling this option makes sense on a shared device, in a waiting room, or during a video call where someone could read your screen. Leaving it enabled is more practical for long, complex passwords typed on a small keyboard, since you can verify each character before submitting the field.

The setting only controls the on-screen flash of typed characters. It does not store passwords, reveal saved credentials, or change how autofill entries from Samsung Pass or a browser are handled.

Frequently asked questions

No. The setting only affects characters you type manually. Passwords filled in through Samsung Pass or a browser still appear normally in the field.
