Samsung: Turn Mobile Hotspot On or Off

If you need to share your Samsung phone's mobile data connection with a laptop, tablet, or another phone, Mobile Hotspot has to be switched on first. Without it, nearby devices cannot detect your phone as a Wi-Fi access point at all. Many people also struggle to find where this toggle sits once they need to turn it off again to save data or battery.

Turn Mobile Hotspot On or Off auf Samsung

Mobile Hotspot turns your Samsung phone into a small wireless router. Once active, other devices see it as a normal Wi-Fi network and use your phone's mobile data connection instead of their own.

This function is part of the connectivity settings inside Samsung One UI. It works independently from your regular Wi-Fi connection, so you can run a hotspot even while your phone stays connected to a router for its own internet access on some models.

To turn it on or off, go to SettingsConnectionsMobile Hotspot and Tethering ➔ then enable or disable Mobile Hotspot with the switch on that screen.

Keep in mind that data used by connected devices counts against your regular mobile data plan. If your carrier blocks or limits tethering, the toggle may stay greyed out or disconnect devices shortly after they join. Running a hotspot for a longer time also increases battery drain and heat, so switch it off once you are done sharing the connection.

If you only need to move files between two Samsung devices without using mobile data, Wi-Fi Direct or Quick Share is usually a better fit than Mobile Hotspot.
