Samsung: Move Widgets on the Home Screen

A widget that landed in the wrong spot on your Samsung home screen can overlap app icons or leave awkward gaps in your layout. Many users try to delete and re-add the widget instead of simply repositioning it. The home screen also locks widgets in place until edit mode is active, which makes them feel stuck.

Move a Widget on the Home Screen auf Samsung

Widgets on a Samsung home screen are not fixed once placed. One UI treats every widget like a movable tile that stays exactly where you drop it, which is why it can end up blocking an app icon or sitting too close to another element.

The home screen only allows repositioning while it recognizes a long-press as an edit action instead of a tap that opens the widget. If you release too early or move your finger too fast, the system interprets it as a normal touch and nothing happens.

To move a widget, use this sequence: Tap and hold a WidgetDrag the Widget to the desired positionRelease the Widget to position it. The home screen switches into edit mode automatically once you hold the widget long enough, and a light vibration or slight lift usually confirms the widget is now free to drag.

If the widget snaps back to its old spot, you likely released it over an area that is already occupied or outside the visible home screen panels. Dragging it slightly toward an empty grid space usually solves that.

This method works the same for widgets you added yourself and for ones that came pre-placed by Samsung, since both are treated as regular home screen items.

Frequently asked questions

This happens when you release the widget over a spot that is already occupied by an icon or another widget. Drag it further toward an empty area of the grid before releasing.
