Samsung: Set Up a Proxy Server for Wi-Fi

If your workplace or school network requires all traffic to pass through a specific server, a normal Wi-Fi connection on your Samsung phone will not get you online. Without the correct proxy host and port entered in the Wi-Fi settings, apps and browsers simply time out or show a connection error. This setup only affects the Wi-Fi network you configure it on, not mobile data.

Set Up a Proxy Server for Wi-Fi auf Samsung

A proxy sits between your Samsung phone and the internet. Some offices, schools and public networks require every device to route Wi-Fi traffic through a designated proxy server before it reaches the web.

If that proxy is not entered on your phone, connected apps and browsers will show a generic connection error even though Wi-Fi shows as connected. This setting only applies to the Wi-Fi network you edit it on, so it has no effect on mobile data or other saved networks.

Where to enter the proxy

Go to Tap on SettingsTap on ConnectionsTap on Wi-FiTap on SettingsTap on AdvancedTap on Proxy.

Here you choose between Manualor Auto-config. Manual mode asks for the proxy host name and proxy port directly, plus optional username and password if the network requires authentication. Auto-config instead expects a PAC URL that your network administrator provides, and the phone downloads the proxy rules from that address automatically.

After picking a mode, use Enter the Corresponding dataand tap Save to apply the settings immediately.

When something still fails

A wrong port number or an expired PAC URL is the most common reason the connection keeps failing after setup. If the network switched to a different proxy server recently, ask your network administrator for the current host, port and any authentication details before trying again.

Frequently asked questions

Manual requires you to type the proxy host and port yourself, plus optional login credentials. Auto-config instead pulls those settings from a PAC file at a URL supplied by the network, which is common on larger corporate or school networks.
