Samsung: Delete a Saved Fingerprint

Old fingerprints stored on your Samsung phone stay active even after you stop using them, and every extra entry gives a spoofed or borrowed print another chance to unlock the device. If a family member's finger, a child's print, or an unreliable scan is still registered under Fingerprints, it can grant access you no longer want. Removing entries you do not need closes that gap without touching your other saved biometrics.

Delete a Saved Fingerprint auf Samsung

Samsung phones let you store several fingerprints so different people or fingers can unlock the device. This convenience becomes a security risk once a fingerprint is no longer needed, since any registered print can pass the sensor check and reach your data, apps, and payment tools.

Each fingerprint is managed individually in the security settings, so you can remove a single entry without resetting your screen lock or deleting the other stored prints. This is the right fix when you know exactly which fingerprint should go, for example after lending your phone to someone or after registering a print that scans unreliably.

To remove a fingerprint, go to SettingsBiometrics and securityFingerprints. Confirm your identity by entering your current Pattern, PIN, or Password. Select the fingerprint entry you want to get rid of, tap Remove, then tap Remove again to confirm.

If you cannot tell which entry belongs to which finger, it is safer to delete every fingerprint and re-register only the ones you actively use. This also helps if the sensor keeps misreading a print, since a fresh scan usually performs better than a degraded one.

Frequently asked questions

Fingerprint unlock and fingerprint-based app approvals stop working until you register a new print. Your phone still unlocks with the Pattern, PIN, or Password you set as backup.
