Samsung: Turn Ultra Wide Shape Correction On or Off

Wide-angle shots often bend straight lines near the edges of the frame, especially with faces or buildings close to the border. This warping, known as the fish-eye effect, comes from the ultra-wide lens itself. Samsung One UI can straighten these edges automatically, but the toggle is easy to overlook in the camera settings.

Turn Ultra Wide Shape Correction On or Off auf Samsung

Ultra-wide lenses capture a wider field of view by compressing the scene, and that compression bends straight lines the closer they sit to the frame edges. This bulging distortion, commonly called the fish-eye effect, shows up most in group photos, architecture, and interior shots.

Samsung One UI includes a built-in correction step that runs right after the ultra-wide sensor captures a shot. It recalculates the geometry near the edges so verticals and faces look natural again, without needing to switch lenses.

Where to find the toggle

Open CameraSettingsFormat and advanced options ➔ enable or disable Ultra wide shape correction. The change applies immediately to your next ultra-wide shot.

Turning correction off can help when you want the raw, dramatic bend for creative shots, or when the algorithm slightly stretches the extreme corners of a busy scene. Leaving it on is the better default for everyday wide shots of people or rooms, since it keeps proportions closer to what your eye actually sees.

The setting only affects the ultra-wide camera. If distortion still shows up with the main lens, the cause is a different setting or a case partially blocking the sensor edge, not shape correction.

Frequently asked questions

This usually happens if you are not on the ultra-wide lens or if another camera mode overrides format options. Switch to the ultra-wide lens first, then open CameraSettingsFormat and advanced options again.
