If your Samsung phone stays unlocked the moment you pick it up, on-body detection is quietly keeping Smart Lock active. The motion sensor cannot always tell your hand from a bag or pocket, so the lock screen sometimes gets skipped when it should not. That mix-up affects both battery use and how secure the phone stays when it changes hands.
Turn On Birthday Reminders in the Calendar
Samsung Calendar shows birthdays pulled from your contacts, but it stays silent when one is coming up. No notification pops up on the day itself or beforehand, so birthdays slip by unnoticed unless you check the calendar manually. The alert for this feature is hidden separately from your other calendar notifications.
Media Volume Limit: Turn On or Off
If music, calls or videos through headphones or a Bluetooth speaker suddenly sound quieter than the volume slider suggests, the Media volume limit is active. This system function caps loudness independently from the normal volume control and can be locked behind a PIN. Without knowing where this setting lives, you cannot raise the ceiling or switch the limit off again.
View Messages Stored on the SIM Card
Older Samsung phones let you save SMS directly on the SIM card, but current devices no longer write new texts there under normal use. If a SIM card still holds old messages, the Messages app hides that folder inside a separate settings menu instead of showing it in the main inbox.
Set Swipe Action for the Shutter Button
Swiping the shutter button sideways on a Samsung camera usually fires off a rapid burst of shots, even if you only wanted one quick series. If you would rather get an instant GIF from that same gesture, the camera app hides a setting most people never touch.
Resize a Widget
If a widget on your Samsung home screen looks cramped or the text is too small to read, you can usually adjust its size without deleting and re-adding it. Not every widget supports resizing, and how much space it can take up depends on the current grid layout of your home screen. Pin a Conversation to the Top of Messages
When you text a lot of people, your most important chats can get buried fast because the Messages app sorts everything by time, newest on top. If a key contact keeps sliding down the list every time someone else texts you, there is no quick way to jump straight to that conversation. Samsung lets you fix this by marking a chat as a favorite so it always stays visible.
Remove Biometric Data
If your Samsung phone still unlocks with an old fingerprint or a face scan that no longer feels safe, that biometric data is still sitting behind your Screen lock type setting. Switching the lock method clears every stored fingerprint and face profile at once, but it also drops your PIN, password or pattern until you set a new one. Apps that rely on Samsung Pass or biometric login will ask for a fallback method right after.
Double Tap to Wake Screen On/Off
If a double tap on the screen does nothing on your Samsung phone, the 'Double tap to turn on/off screen' gesture is probably switched off in Motions and gestures. Some users also find the opposite problem: the screen lights up on its own every time the phone gets tapped in a pocket or bag, which drains the battery faster. Turn On/Off Message Delivery Reports
If you send a text message and never see a confirmation that it arrived, delivery reports are probably switched off on your Samsung phone. This status, called Show when delivered, marks the exact moment the recipient's device receives your message. Carriers process this confirmation without extra charge in almost all cases.
Enable Face Recognition Unlock
Registered your face on your Samsung phone but the lock screen still asks for a PIN or pattern? Face data alone does not turn on face unlock - the feature stays off by default even after enrollment. You need to switch it on separately before it works as an unlock method.
Keyboard Language Switching Method
If swiping the space bar keeps switching your keyboard language mid-sentence, or the dedicated language key seems to do nothing, the Samsung Keyboard is set to a switching method that does not match how you type. Samsung gives you three separate ways to jump between installed languages, and the wrong one causes accidental switches or a key that appears broken. Add Members to a Contact Group
Adding a new contact to an existing group is not obvious in Samsung Contacts, since the group screen looks read-only until you switch into edit mode. Miss that step and the new contact stays outside the group, so it never receives group messages or shows up for group calls. This mainly trips people up when they add contacts after a group already exists.
Change Mobile Hotspot Wi-Fi Band
When several devices crowd the same Wi-Fi channel, your Samsung hotspot connection can slow down noticeably. Switching the mobile hotspot band lets you pick a less congested frequency, but the option disappears if Wi-Fi sharing is turned on.
Number Row on Samsung Keyboard
If your Samsung keyboard suddenly shows a full row of digits above the letters, or that row is missing and you have to tap and hold a letter until a popup with the number appears, the number row layout has been switched. This setting decides whether typing numbers takes one tap or a tap-and-hold, and it changes how much space the keyboard takes up on screen.
Add an App to Do Not Disturb Exceptions
If WhatsApp calls or Facebook messages stay silent while Do Not Disturb is active, the app is not listed as an exception yet. Samsung mutes every notification by default once the mode is on, even from apps you consider urgent. Adding the app to the exception list lets its alerts pass through regardless of the mode.
Turn On/Off Widgets on Lock Screen
If the music player, next alarm, or calendar no longer shows up on your Samsung lock screen, the Widgets option is likely switched off. Some people want the opposite and disable widgets entirely, since alarms, app info, or playback controls can be visible without unlocking the device.
