Xiaomi: Add Contacts to a Group

Groups on your Xiaomi phone stay empty until you actually assign contacts to them. You can add people either from a single contact's profile or from inside the group itself, and mixing up the two methods is where most confusion starts. Knowing which screen controls group membership saves you from re-adding the same contact twice.

Add Contacts to a Group auf Xiaomi

Newly created groups on your Xiaomi phone remain empty until you assign contacts to them yourself. MIUI ties group membership directly to the Contacts app, so there is no separate group manager working on its own.

To add someone, go to Tap on ContactsOpen the MenuChoose a GroupTap on Add. In the list that appears, Tap and hold a Contact to select it, then If desired, select more Contacts to build the whole group in one pass. Confirm with Tap on Save and the new members show up immediately in the group overview.

This same process covers both call groups and message groups, since MIUI treats them as one contact set with different notification rules layered on top.

If a contact does not appear in the selection list, check whether it is stored locally or only synced through an account that is currently signed out. Contacts hidden by an active filter, such as a SIM-only view, will not show up either until that filter is removed.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Open the contact's detail page, tap the group field, and choose the group you want. This gives the same result as going through Choose a GroupTap on Add from the group side.
