Xiaomi: Reorder Keyboard Language Priority

If your Xiaomi phone keeps switching to the wrong keyboard language after you added a second or third layout, MIUI is simply using the wrong priority order. The keyboard picks its default language from the order you set in Manage keyboards, not from the one you type most often. Autocorrect and word suggestions follow that same order until you rearrange it.

Reorder Keyboard Languages auf Xiaomi

When you add more than one keyboard language on a Xiaomi phone, MIUI treats the first language in the list as the default. Autocorrect, word suggestions and the space-bar language switcher all follow that top position, not the language you typed most recently.

This becomes a problem once a rarely used layout sits above the language you actually need. Typing in English while a German or French layout stays on top forces you to switch manually every time, or leaves autocorrect fixing words in the wrong language.

The order lives inside the keyboard's own settings, separate from the general system language list. To fix it, open SettingsAdditional settingsLanguages & inputManage keyboardsSettingsLanguagesEdit, then drag each language or layout into the position you want it to have priority.

Moving a language to the top makes it the one the keyboard falls back to whenever it cannot detect which language you intend to use. If you always switch manually with the globe key, the order matters less, but for automatic language detection and autocorrect it decides which dictionary gets used first.

If the keyboard still ignores the new order after saving, remove the affected language from the list and add it again before reordering. Some layouts only pick up the new priority correctly once they have been re-added.

Frequently asked questions

MIUI uses the language at the top of the list in Manage keyboardsSettingsLanguages as the default whenever it cannot clearly detect which one you meant to type. Drag your main language to the top position under Edit to stop the automatic switching.
