Xiaomi: Connect to Wi-Fi Using a QR Code

Typing out a long Wi-Fi password on a Xiaomi phone gets tedious, especially with mixed case letters and symbols. If the network owner has a QR code ready, you can skip the password field entirely by scanning it with the built-in Wi-Fi scanner.

Connect to Wi-Fi Using a QR Code auf Xiaomi

MIUI includes a built-in QR scanner inside the Wi-Fi settings, separate from your camera app. It reads network name and password directly from a printed or displayed QR code, so you avoid typing long WPA2 or WPA3 passwords character by character.

Where to find the scanner

Open Tap on SettingsTap on Wi-FiTap on Scan QR code. This opens a dedicated camera frame rather than your standard camera app.

Hold the phone steady and Place a QR codeinside the frame. As soon as the code is recognized, your phone reads the embedded network name and password and attempts to connect automatically.

This only works if the QR code was generated for that specific network, either shared from another phone or printed by the router owner. Open networks without a password rarely use this method, since there is nothing to encode besides the network name.

If the connection fails right after scanning, the phone is likely out of range of that network, or the code was generated for a different Wi-Fi band than the one currently reachable.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Wi-Fi must be switched on for the scan option to appear under Tap on Wi-Fi. If the toggle is off, turn it on first, then open the scanner.
