Xiaomi: Create a New Album in Gallery

When photos and videos pile up in one long timeline, finding a specific trip or event gets tedious fast. The Gallery app on Xiaomi phones sorts everything by date by default, with no automatic grouping by topic or person. Creating a custom album lets you pull selected photos and videos into one place without digging through months of camera roll.

Create an Album in Gallery auf Xiaomi

The Gallery app on Xiaomi phones groups photos and videos by date automatically. There is no built-in sorting by event, person or topic, so a trip or a project can end up scattered across weeks of camera shots. A custom album solves this by pulling selected media into one dedicated folder you can open directly.

Create an album

Open Gallery and tap Albums. Tap Add, enter a name for the new album and confirm with OK. Select one or more photos or videos, then tap Save.

Gallery then asks whether to Move or Copy the selected files. Moving removes the items from their original album and places them only in the new one. Copying keeps the originals where they are and adds duplicates to the new album, which uses extra storage.

Pick Move if you only want the media filed once. Pick Copy if the same photos need to stay visible in both the camera roll and the new album, for example when preparing a shared folder for someone else.

Frequently asked questions

Move takes the photos out of their current location and keeps only one copy in the new album. Copy duplicates the files, so the same photos appear in both places and take up additional storage.
