Xiaomi: Assign Custom Button Shortcuts

If double-pressing the power button always opens the camera when you wanted a screenshot instead, the button shortcut linked to that gesture doesn't match how you actually use your phone. MIUI lets you remap gestures like double-press power or long-press volume to actions such as torch, split screen or Google Assistant. Finding and changing that mapping means digging through a settings menu that isn't obvious at first glance.

Assign Custom Button Shortcuts auf Xiaomi

On Xiaomi phones, gestures like double-pressing the power button or holding a volume key trigger a fixed system action by default. If that behavior does not fit how you use your phone, you can remap each gesture to a different function.

The setting sits under Tap on SettingsTap on Additional settingsTap on Button shortcuts. From there, pick a function such as Launch camera, Take a screenshot, Launch Google Assistant, Turn off screen, Turn on torch, Close current app, Open split screen or Show menu, then use Choose a Gesture/Button shortcut to attach it to a specific press pattern.

Each gesture can only carry one function at a time. Assigning torch to double-press power removes whatever action was linked there before, usually the camera shortcut.

If a shortcut stops reacting after you change it, another app with an active accessibility service or a custom launcher may already be intercepting that same button combination. System-level gestures lose priority in that case.

Shortcuts like Open split screen or Show menu also depend on the app you are currently using. Even with the gesture set correctly, apps without split-screen or menu support simply ignore the signal.

Frequently asked questions

Each gesture in Button shortcuts holds exactly one function. Assigning Turn on torch to a gesture overwrites whatever function, including Launch camera, was previously linked to it.
