Xiaomi: Delete an Entire Message Conversation

Deleting a text thread one message at a time on a Xiaomi phone takes forever once a conversation has piled up over months. Long threads eat into storage and clutter your inbox, and most people never notice the shortcut MIUI offers for removing a whole conversation at once. Once you confirm the deletion, the messages are gone for good, so it helps to know exactly where to tap first.

Delete a Conversation auf Xiaomi

Long-running text threads on a Xiaomi phone are stored as a single conversation, not as individual messages you can remove one by one from the inbox view. Deleting the whole thread at once is the fastest way to clear out old chats, free up storage, and keep the Messages app organized.

The action sits behind a long-press gesture rather than a visible button, which is why many people miss it. Open Tap on Messages, then find the thread you want to remove and use Tap and hold a Conversation to bring up the options menu. From there, select Tap on Delete and confirm with Tap on Delete again when the app asks you to verify the action.

This removes every message in that thread, including attachments stored locally in the conversation. There is no recovery option afterward, so double-check you have the right conversation open before confirming.

If you only need to remove a few messages inside an otherwise useful conversation, deleting the entire thread is the wrong tool. Selecting and removing individual messages keeps the rest of the history intact.

Frequently asked questions

No. Once you confirm with Tap on Delete, the conversation and its messages are removed from the device and cannot be restored unless you had a separate backup of your messages.
