Xiaomi: Turn Off Developer Options in MIUI

If Developer options keeps popping up in your Xiaomi settings even though you only enabled it once for a quick fix, it usually just needs to be switched off inside its own menu. Leaving it active keeps USB debugging and other low-level toggles exposed, which can interfere with app checks or banking apps. Turning it off hides the whole menu again until you reactivate it through the hidden tap sequence.

Turn Off Developer Options auf Xiaomi

Developer options gets unlocked on Xiaomi phones through a hidden tap sequence on the build number, and once active it stays visible in the settings menu until you turn it off manually.

Simply rebooting or updating apps does not remove it, because MIUI treats it as a separate system toggle rather than a temporary state.

Where to find the switch

Open Tap on SettingsTap on Additional settingsTap on Developer options. Inside this screen, use the switch at the top to Turn Off Developer options, then confirm any prompt that appears.

Once the toggle is off, tap Tap on Back to exit to leave the screen. The Developer options entry disappears from Additional settings the next time you open it, and it only reappears if you repeat the unlock sequence on the build number.

What changes after disabling it

Turning it off resets USB debugging, mock location, and other developer-only permissions back to their default state.

Apps that check for an active developer mode, such as some banking or payment apps, usually stop showing warnings right after this step.

If you still need USB debugging for occasional app testing, keep the menu enabled and only switch off the individual toggle for debugging instead of hiding the whole menu.

Frequently asked questions

No. Switching off Developer options only resets system-level toggles like USB debugging or mock location. It does not remove installed apps, accounts, or their stored data.
