Turn Emergency Location Service (ELS) On or Off auf Xiaomi
Emergency Location Service (ELS) is a background function on Xiaomi phones running MIUI on Android. It transmits your current position to emergency responders the moment you place an emergency call or send an emergency text, independent of your regular location permissions for apps.
If ELS is switched off, your phone still lets the call through, but responders receive no automatic position data. That can slow down rescue efforts, especially if you cannot describe your location verbally.
To check or change the setting, open Settings ➔ Location ➔ Emergency Location Service and toggle Send ELS Location. Enabling it does not drain noticeable battery, since it only activates during an actual emergency call or message.
Leave ELS enabled unless your carrier explicitly advises otherwise or you have privacy concerns that outweigh the safety benefit. Disabling it does not affect normal GPS use in maps or other apps, since ELS operates independently of standard location services.
