Xiaomi: Show or Hide the Emoji Switch Key on the Keyboard

If you type a lot of emojis, switching between the language globe and the emoji picker can slow you down on the MIUI keyboard. The globe icon and the emoji key share the same spot, so only one of them shows on the keyboard row at a time. Turning on the emoji switch key swaps that icon while quick language switching still works by holding the space bar.

Show or Hide the Emoji Switch Key auf Xiaomi

On the MIUI keyboard, the bottom row has one spot for either the language globe or the emoji key, never both at once. By default the globe icon takes that spot, so opening the emoji picker means an extra tap through the keyboard menu.

Enabling the emoji switch key replaces the globe icon with a dedicated emoji button, giving you one-tap access to emojis while typing. Language switching does not disappear: holding down the space bar still cycles through your installed keyboard languages, so this setting only changes which icon sits on the keyboard row.

Where to find the setting

Open SettingsAdditional settingsLanguages & inputManage keyboardsSettingsPreferences. There you find the toggle Show emoji switch key, which you can enable or disable at any time.

Turn this option off again if you rarely use emojis and prefer quick access to the language globe instead, for example when you switch between two keyboard languages often.

Frequently asked questions

Enabling Show emoji switch key replaces the globe icon with the emoji key on the keyboard row, since both share the same slot.
