Xiaomi: Fill Empty Home Screen Cells After Uninstalling Apps

When you remove an app from your Xiaomi phone, MIUI decides what happens to the cell it used to occupy. By default, the system can shift the remaining icons so no empty gap stays visible on the home screen. This behavior comes from a dedicated home screen setting, not from some automatic cleanup process running in the background.

You find the toggle at Settings ➔ Home screen ➔ Fill cells of uninstalled apps. Enabling it tells MIUI to rearrange the remaining icons and close any gap right after an uninstall finishes. Disabling it keeps your layout exactly as it was, leaving an empty cell where the app used to sit.

Turn this on if you prefer a tidy grid and do not want to drag icons around manually every time you remove an app. Leave it off if you rely on a fixed arrangement, for example when specific icon positions or grouping matter more to you than filling gaps automatically.

This toggle only affects uninstalls that happen after you change it. Apps you already removed will not shift retroactively, so you still need to rearrange those cells by hand if you flip the setting afterward.
