Xiaomi: Turn Fingerprint Unlock for App Lock On or Off

If a locked app on your Xiaomi phone keeps asking for the app lock password even though your fingerprint sensor works everywhere else, fingerprint unlock for App lock is probably switched off. This setting lets you skip the PIN or pattern entry for individual apps and confirm access with your finger instead. Without it enabled, MIUI falls back to the password every time you open a protected app.

Fingerprint Unlock for App Lock auf Xiaomi

App lock on Xiaomi phones protects individual apps with a separate PIN, pattern, or password, independent of the phone's main lock screen. By default MIUI asks for that password every time you open a protected app, even if you already unlocked the phone with your finger.

Fingerprint unlock for App lock links the fingerprint sensor to this second layer of protection. Once enabled, a matching fingerprint replaces the password prompt for locked apps, while the password itself stays available as a backup.

To change the setting, open SettingsPasswords & securityFingerprint unlock. Enter your current pattern, PIN, or password when asked, then enable or disable App lock in the fingerprint options.

Turning the option off is useful on shared devices or when you want a mandatory manual password check for sensitive apps. Turning it on speeds up daily use but relies on the same fingerprint data as your phone unlock, so anyone enrolled there also gets access to locked apps.

Frequently asked questions

Some apps request the password once per restart or after a system update, even with fingerprint unlock active. Reopen SettingsPasswords & securityFingerprint unlock and confirm App lock is still switched on.
