Xiaomi: Turn Google Play Protect On or Off

If your Xiaomi keeps blocking app installs from outside the Play Store, or you get repeated malware warnings for apps you know are safe, Google Play Protect is usually behind it. The feature scans every app before and after installation and can flag legitimate apps as risky. You can check its current status and switch the scanning behavior directly from the security settings.

Turn Google Play Protect On or Off auf Xiaomi

Google Play Protect runs in the background on every Xiaomi phone with MIUI. It scans apps before they finish downloading, checks them again during installation, and periodically rescans apps already on your device, including ones installed from outside the Play Store.

When Play Protect flags an app, MIUI shows a warning notification and may block the install until you confirm you want to proceed anyway. This is why a trusted APK or a work app from an unknown source sometimes gets stopped even though it is not actually harmful.

To check or change the setting, go to Tap on SettingsTap on Passwords & securityTap on PrivacyTap on Google Play ProtectTap on SettingsEnable or disable Scan apps with Play Protect.

Turning the toggle off stops Google's scanning but does not disable MIUI's own security layer, so your phone is not left completely unprotected. Keep it enabled if you regularly install apps from the Play Store or sideload files from sources you are not fully sure about. Only disable it temporarily for testing an app you trust, then switch it back on afterward.

Frequently asked questions

No. Disabling Scan apps with Play Protect only turns off Google's own scanning. MIUI still applies its built-in app permission checks and system-level protections.
