Xiaomi: Hide Apps from the Home Screen

If an app keeps showing up on your home screen even though you do not want it visible, MIUI can hide it completely as long as App lock is turned on. Without App lock active, the option to hide apps simply does not appear in the menu. Once hidden, an app only reappears after you unlock it with your password or pattern.

Hide and Show Apps on the Home Screen auf Xiaomi

On Xiaomi phones, hiding an app from the home screen only works once App lock is active. Without it, MIUI has no way to link a hidden app to a password or pattern, so the hide option stays greyed out or missing entirely.

App lock adds a security layer on top of individual apps. Once it runs, MIUI can move an app icon out of the launcher while keeping the app installed and functional in the background.

To hide an app, go to SettingsAppsApp lockHidden apps and enable the app you want to remove from view.

To bring a hidden app back, place two fingers on an empty spot of the home screen and pull them apart. MIUI then asks for the App lock password or unlock pattern before it shows the hidden apps again.

This method only hides the icon. It does not stop notifications, background data usage, or the app appearing in storage and battery statistics. If you need to fully remove an app instead of hiding it, uninstalling is the better option.

Frequently asked questions

The option only appears once at least one app is protected by App lock. Add a password or pattern for any app first, then Hidden apps becomes available in the same menu.
