Xiaomi: Mark All Messages as Read in Messages

When unread badges pile up across several conversations in the Messages app, tapping into each thread just to clear the counter gets tedious fast. On MIUI there is a faster way to clear every unread marker at once, without opening every single chat.

Mark All Messages as Read auf Xiaomi

Unread counters in the Messages app come from the notification badge system tied to each conversation thread. Every time a text arrives without being opened, MIUI keeps a small unread flag on that chat, and these add up quickly if several people write to you at the same time.

Instead of opening every thread individually, MIUI offers a shortcut that clears all unread flags in one action. Open the app and follow Tap on MessagesOpen the MenuTap on Mark all as read. This removes every unread badge across all conversations immediately.

If you only want to clear specific chats instead of all of them, tap and hold a conversation in the list. This switches the list into selection mode, letting you tap additional threads to include them. Confirm with Mark as read to clear only the selected conversations, leaving the rest untouched.

Use the full Mark all as read option when your inbox is cluttered after being offline for a while. Use the selection method when only a few specific chats need clearing and the rest should keep their unread status as a reminder.

Marking messages as read does not delete or archive them, it only removes the visual unread indicator. Content and message order stay exactly as before.

Frequently asked questions

No. The Mark all as read action only clears the unread badges. Every conversation, message, and attachment stays exactly where it was.
