Xiaomi: Set Up a Proxy Server for a Wi-Fi Connection

If your network admin or workplace requires traffic to run through a specific server, a plain Wi-Fi connection on your Xiaomi phone will not route it correctly. Without a configured proxy hostname and port, apps either fail to connect or bypass the required server entirely. This affects browsing, app updates and anything that depends on that network policy.

Set Up a Proxy Server for Wi-Fi auf Xiaomi

A proxy server sits between your Xiaomi phone and the internet, forwarding your Wi-Fi traffic through a defined host and port. This is common in offices, schools or networks that filter or log connections. Without it configured, the phone connects directly and any policy tied to that proxy simply gets skipped.

MIUI lets you set this per Wi-Fi network, either manually or through a Proxy Auto-Config script provided by your network administrator. Manual setup needs at least a hostname and port; some networks also require a bypass list for local addresses.

Choose Manual if you have the exact hostname and port from your network admin. Choose Proxy Auto-Config if you were given a script URL instead.

If pages stop loading or take much longer after saving, double check the hostname and port for typos. A wrong or unreachable proxy blocks the connection completely, even though Wi-Fi itself shows as connected.

Note that this setting only applies to the current Wi-Fi network. Switching networks or using mobile data ignores it, so you need to repeat the process for every network that requires the same proxy.

Frequently asked questions

Manual means you enter the hostname and port yourself. Proxy Auto-Config loads a script from a URL that tells your phone which server to use, often changing rules depending on the site you visit.
