Turn On/Off Data Usage Reduction (Mi Browser) auf Xiaomi
Data usage reduction is a setting inside Mi Browser on Xiaomi phones. Once enabled, it delays or blocks automatic loading of heavy content such as videos and images to keep mobile data consumption lower.
This is why some pages that used to autoplay video suddenly require a tap before anything plays. The behavior is not identical on every website, since some pages still load media automatically regardless of this setting, while others react strongly to it.
Where to find the setting
The toggle sits inside the browser itself, not in the general system settings. Go to Mi Browser ➔ Profile ➔ Enable or disable Reduce data usage to switch it on or off.
Turn it on if you browse mostly on mobile data and want to avoid unnecessary video or image loading. Turn it off if you are on Wi-Fi most of the time, or if pages feel slow or broken because content refuses to load automatically.
Keep in mind that disabling it does not guarantee every video will autoplay again, since individual websites apply their own autoplay rules on top of this setting.
