Xiaomi: Remove a Stored Fingerprint

If a fingerprint still unlocks your Xiaomi phone after you sold it, handed it to someone else, or just registered a bad scan, that print needs to go. MIUI stores several fingerprints under one name, so it is easy to remove the wrong one by mistake. Deleting a print always asks for your unlock pattern, PIN or password first, which trips up people who only remember using their finger.

Remove a Stored Fingerprint auf Xiaomi

Fingerprints on Xiaomi phones are managed inside Passwords & security, not in a separate biometrics app. MIUI groups every enrolled print under one list, so before deleting anything it helps to scan through and identify which entry belongs to the finger you want gone.

MIUI requires your backup unlock method before it lets you remove a print. This is a deliberate security check: without it, anyone holding an unlocked phone could wipe fingerprint data and enroll their own instead.

The verified path is: Tap on SettingsTap on Passwords & securityTap on Fingerprint unlockEnter the current Pattern, PIN or PasswordSelect a fingerprintTap on Remove fingerprintTap on OK.

Removing a fingerprint does not affect other unlock methods, apps that use biometric login, or Face Unlock if configured separately. If you plan to sell or hand over the device, remove every stored print and also check the Face Unlock section, since both can grant access independently.

If fingerprint unlock stopped working entirely and no prints appear in the list, the sensor itself may need a re-enrollment instead of a removal.

Frequently asked questions

The phone falls back to your pattern, PIN or password for unlocking and for any app that relied on fingerprint login. Fingerprint unlock stays available but shows no enrolled prints until you add a new one under Fingerprint unlock.
