Set Up a Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot auf Xiaomi
The portable hotspot on Xiaomi phones ships with a generic SSID and a password that is easy to overlook. Anyone within Wi-Fi range who knows or guesses that default can connect and use your mobile data. Changing the name and password closes that gap and lets you tell your own hotspot apart from others nearby.
Where the hotspot settings live
MIUI groups the hotspot function under the general connectivity settings, not inside the Wi-Fi menu. That is why the option is easy to miss on a first search.
Menu path
Open Settings ➔ Portable hotspot ➔ Set up portable hotspot. Enter a new SSID, set a password with at least eight characters, and adjust any other option you need, such as the frequency band if it is offered. Confirm with Save.
What changes after saving
Devices that were connected before the change get disconnected and need the new password to rejoin. The new SSID appears immediately in nearby Wi-Fi lists once the hotspot is turned on.
When this is not enough
If the hotspot still gets used without your consent after changing the password, check whether an old device kept the credentials saved and reconnects automatically. Removing that saved network on the other device, not just changing the password again, solves that case.
