Xiaomi: Turn the Delete Sound On or Off

Every time you delete a message or a file on your Xiaomi phone, a short click sound plays automatically. That extra sound gets annoying fast if you delete things often or want your phone quieter in general. The setting sits with the other system sounds, not inside the messaging app itself.

Turn Delete Sound On or Off auf Xiaomi

On MIUI, deleting a message, file, or notification triggers a short confirmation sound by default. This feedback tone is a system-level setting, not something controlled inside individual apps like Messages or Files.

Because it lives in the general sound settings, turning it off (or back on) affects the delete sound everywhere on the phone, not just in one app.

Where to find the setting

Open Tap on SettingsTap on Sound & vibrationTap on Additional settings. There you find the toggle to Enable or disable Delete sound.

Switch it off if you want silent deletions. Switch it back on if you rely on the sound as confirmation that an action went through, for example when deleting several files in a row without looking at the screen.

When to leave it on

If you often delete items in low-light situations or without checking the screen each time, the sound acts as useful feedback. In quiet environments like meetings or at night, turning it off avoids unwanted attention.

This setting does not affect other system sounds such as keyboard clicks or screenshot sounds, which are toggled separately in the same Additional settings menu.

Frequently asked questions

No. The toggle under Additional settings only controls the delete or elimination sound. Keyboard sounds, screenshot sounds, and charging sounds each have their own separate switch in the same menu.
