Xiaomi: Turn Wi-Fi On or Off

If your Xiaomi phone won't connect to your home or public network, Wi-Fi might simply be switched off in the background. Leaving Wi-Fi active around the clock also drains the battery faster, especially when no network is in range. Many users struggle to find the toggle after a system update moved it inside a different menu.

Turn Wi-Fi On or Off auf Xiaomi

Wi-Fi on a Xiaomi phone runs through MIUI's own connectivity manager, separate from mobile data. If a network never connects automatically, the radio itself may be turned off rather than the specific network being blocked.

To check or change the state, open Settings ➔ tap Wi-Fi ➔ use the switch to enable or disable Wi-Fi. Once enabled, the phone scans for saved and nearby networks; once disabled, it stops all wireless network scanning and connections.

When to turn Wi-Fi off

Switching Wi-Fi off saves battery when you are away from any known network, since the radio no longer searches continuously. It also stops unwanted auto-connects to open public hotspots.

When to leave it on

If you rely on messaging apps, cloud backups, or large downloads at home or work, keep Wi-Fi enabled so the phone can switch away from mobile data automatically.

Note that disabling Wi-Fi does not affect mobile data or Bluetooth. Those run through separate toggles and stay active independently.

Frequently asked questions

No. Wi-Fi and mobile data are controlled separately in MIUI. Disabling Wi-Fi only stops wireless network scanning; mobile data keeps working until you turn it off on its own toggle.
