Xiaomi: Unarchive a Conversation in Messages

Archived chats disappear from the main Messages overview on Xiaomi phones, which makes them easy to lose track of. If you archived a conversation by mistake or need to reply again, it stays hidden until you move it back manually. The message thread stays fully intact in the Archived folder, ready to be restored at any time.

Unarchive a Conversation auf Xiaomi

On Xiaomi phones running MIUI, archiving a conversation in Messages removes it from the main chat list but keeps every message, photo and attachment stored safely. This is intentional: MIUI treats archiving as a filter, not a delete action, so nothing is lost when a thread moves out of view.

The archive exists to declutter your inbox without removing old conversations. If a contact suddenly stops appearing in your chat overview, check the Archived folder before assuming a message was deleted or a contact was blocked.

To bring a conversation back, use Tap on MessagesOpen the MenuTap on ArchivedTap and hold a ConversationTap on Unarchive. The chat reappears immediately in the main overview, sorted by its most recent activity.

Use the Live-Simulator below to test the exact tap sequence on the verified MIUI interface before doing it on your own device.

If you archive conversations often, check whether notifications for that contact are muted instead, since muted chats can look similar to archived ones but behave differently inside the app.

Frequently asked questions

No. Unarchiving only moves the conversation back into the main overview. Messages that were deleted before archiving stay deleted.
