Turn USB Tethering On or Off auf Xiaomi
USB tethering lets your Xiaomi phone act as a wired modem for a PC or laptop. It uses the mobile data connection instead of Wi-Fi, which is useful when no wireless network is available or when a more stable connection is needed for a video call or file upload.
The feature is separate from the USB file-transfer mode you normally see when plugging in a cable. That is why the computer sometimes asks which connection to use: it is detecting the phone but the tethering toggle itself is still off.
To turn it on, connect the phone to the computer with a USB cable first. Then open Settings ➔ Portable hotspot and switch on the USB tethering option. The computer should recognize the new network connection within a few seconds.
To turn it off again, go back to the same Portable hotspot screen and toggle USB tethering off. This also happens automatically once you unplug the cable.
If the PC still does not detect the connection after enabling the toggle, unplug and reconnect the cable, or try a different USB port. A missing or outdated driver on the computer can also block the connection even when the phone shows tethering as active.
