Xiaomi: Set the Data Usage Warning Level

If you have already capped your monthly data plan on a Xiaomi phone, you might still get surprised when the limit hits without any heads-up. The warning level tells MIUI at what percentage of your data plan it should alert you before you run out.

Set Data Usage Warning Level auf Xiaomi

Once a maximum data limit is configured on a Xiaomi phone, MIUI only tells you when the full amount is used up. Without a separate warning level, there is no early alert, and you can suddenly lose mobile data mid-task.

The warning level lets you define a percentage of your data plan at which MIUI shows a notification. This gives you time to slow down usage or switch to Wi-Fi before the hard limit kicks in.

To set it, go to Tap on SecurityTap on SettingsTap on Data usageTap on Data planTap on Data usage warning level. Then Swipe left or right to set the Data usage warning level and confirm with OK.

A value around 80 percent leaves enough buffer for normal browsing or messaging while still giving a timely warning. Setting it too low, like 50 percent, triggers alerts too early and can be more annoying than useful.

This warning only works if a data plan limit is already set. Without a defined maximum, MIUI has nothing to calculate the percentage against, so the warning level option stays inactive.

Frequently asked questions
