Archive a Conversation in Messages auf Android
An archived conversation is not deleted. Google Messages simply hides it from the main chat list and stores it in a separate archive folder, keeping every text, photo, and attachment intact.
This is useful for group chats, old customer service threads, or one-off conversations you may need again but do not want cluttering the home screen. Unlike deleting, archiving is fully reversible at any time.
How to archive a conversation
Open the Messages app and go to Tap on Messages. From the conversation list, use Tap and hold a Conversation to select the chat you want to move. A menu bar appears at the top of the screen.
Tap the archive icon, matching Tap on Archive, to confirm. The conversation disappears from the main list immediately and moves into the archive.
New messages sent to an archived conversation still arrive normally. Depending on your notification settings, you still get alerted, but the chat automatically reappears at the top of your main list once a new message comes in.
If you want a conversation removed permanently, including all messages, delete it instead of archiving it. Archiving only affects visibility on the home screen, not the content itself.
