Set Up Screen Lock with Pattern, PIN or Password auf Android
An unprotected Android phone shows the home screen immediately after waking up, with no request for a pattern, PIN or password. This happens when no lock method has ever been configured, or when it was disabled after a system update or reset.
The screen lock is managed under Settings ➔ Security & privacy ➔ Device unlock. This is also where Android decides which unlock methods, such as fingerprint or face recognition, can be added on top of the base lock.
How to set it up
Open Settings, then tap Security & privacy, followed by Device unlock and Screen lock. Select Pattern, PIN or Password and follow the on-screen instructions to confirm your choice.
A pattern is fast to draw but easier to guess from smudges on the display. A PIN or password takes a bit longer to enter but resists shoulder-surfing better, especially with six or more digits or mixed characters.
Setting a screen lock also enables device encryption on most Android phones. If the phone is lost or stolen, stored data stays unreadable without the correct pattern, PIN or password.
