Android: Turn Off Suggested Actions in Messages

Suggested actions in Google Messages watch for things like screenshots, phone numbers, addresses or dates while you write a text. When one is detected, a small suggestion chip appears above the keyboard, offering to attach the image or insert the detected text automatically.

This behavior comes from the Suggestions setting inside the Messages app itself, not from Android system settings. It works independently of notification settings, so muting notifications will not remove the suggestion bar.

Turn it off if the pop-up regularly covers part of your conversation, delays your typing, or if you never use the attach/insert shortcuts it offers. Keep it enabled if you frequently share screenshots or copy contact details, since the feature saves a few taps in those cases.

To disable or re-enable it, go to Tap on Messages ➔ Tap on Google Account ➔ Tap on Messages settings ➔ Tap on General ➔ Tap on Suggestions ➔ Enable or disable Suggested actions.

Turning this off has no effect on message delivery, spam protection or other Messages features. It only removes the automatic suggestion chips above the keyboard.
