Add Cities to World Clock
Checking the time in another city usually means opening a separate app or working out the time difference yourself. The World clock screen on Huawei phones can display several cities side by side, but only after you add them manually. Without extra entries, the Clock app only shows your local time.
Delete a Saved APN on Huawei
If a Huawei phone suddenly loses mobile data or MMS stops working after a SIM swap or carrier update, a leftover or wrong Access Point Name (APN) entry is often behind it. Manually typed APN details or an outdated carrier profile can block a clean connection to the mobile network. Removing the faulty entry is usually what lets the phone reconnect or accept a fresh APN.
Show or Hide Typed Passwords
On a Huawei phone, each digit you type into a password field flashes briefly before it gets swapped for an asterisk. That short delay comes from the Show passwords option in EMUI, and it can work against you if someone is looking over your shoulder or if you just want to double-check what you typed. You can switch this behavior on or off whenever you need to.
Rename a Fingerprint
By default, every fingerprint you register on a Huawei phone gets a generic label like Fingerprint 1 or Fingerprint 2. That makes it hard to tell which print belongs to which finger or family member once you have several saved. You can give any fingerprint a clear name at any time, whether you skipped it during setup or just want to change it later.
Change Device Name
When you pair a Huawei phone over Bluetooth or plug it into a PC, it often shows up under a generic factory name instead of something you actually recognize. That default label makes it hard to tell your phone apart from other devices on the same network or in a list of paired accessories. Renaming it fixes that identification problem for good.
Enable or Disable Emergency Location Service (ELS)
When you dial an emergency number or send an SOS text, your Huawei phone normally shares its location automatically so responders can find you faster. If Google Location Services are turned off, Emergency Location Service (ELS) steps in to determine your position instead, and whether it is active or not can matter in a real emergency. Many people never check this toggle until they need it.
Reset App Preferences
When an app on your Huawei phone stops sending notifications, opens the wrong default app, or gets stuck in the background, one of its individual settings is usually the cause. Over time these per-app permissions, default assignments, and background rules pile up and start conflicting with each other. Resetting app preferences clears that buildup without deleting any app or its data.
Toggle Ad Filter in the Browser App
If pages in the Huawei Browser suddenly show more banners and pop-ups than usual, the built-in Ad filter has likely been switched off. The same setting can also block content on some pages if it filters too aggressively, which is worth checking before assuming a site is broken.
Allow Repeated Calls in Do Not Disturb
When Do Not Disturb blocks calls, a second call from the same contact within 15 minutes usually gets muted too, even if it is urgent. Many people only notice this after missing a follow-up call from family or work. Whether that second attempt gets through or stays silent depends on one setting inside Do Not Disturb.
Rename SIM Card
On a dual-SIM Huawei phone, both slots often show only the carrier name, which makes it hard to tell your two lines apart at a glance. This gets annoying fast if one SIM is for work and the other for personal calls. A custom label fixes that without touching your carrier settings.
Add a New Fingerprint
Only one fingerprint saved on your Huawei phone means unlocking fails whenever you use your other hand or someone else needs quick access. EMUI actually supports several stored fingerprints, but the option to register another one sits deep inside the Biometrics and password settings and is easy to overlook. Renaming an existing entry is optional and can be done later.
Simple Contact View
If your contacts list is cluttered with profile pictures, company names and extra fields, scanning for a phone number takes longer than it should. Huawei devices include a simplified view that hides everything except the core details. This is especially useful if you mainly need quick access to numbers rather than full contact cards.
Select to Speak Setup
If tapping the screen suddenly triggers a spoken read-out of text or images instead of opening an app, Select to Speak is active on your Huawei phone. Many users enable this accessibility feature by accident and then struggle to find where to switch it off again. The toggle sits inside a separate accessibility menu, not in the general sound or display settings.
Enable App Lock
Anyone who picks up your Huawei phone while it is unlocked can open messaging, banking, or gallery apps without any extra check. App Lock adds a second PIN or password on top of your screen lock, but only for the apps you choose to protect.
Change Camera Resolution
Photos and videos from your Huawei camera can look pixelated, oddly cropped, or too large for storage when the resolution setting does not match what you need. The aspect ratio (4:3, 16:9, or 18.6:9) shifts along with resolution, which affects how shots are framed on screen and in prints. Available resolution options differ by Huawei model, so the same settings menu can look different from one device to another.
Show Certification Logos
If you need the FCC ID or another regulatory marking for your Huawei phone but cannot find it on the box or in the manual, the certification logos are stored on the device itself. Which certificates show up depends on the exact model, so the list can look different from phone to phone. The entry is easy to miss because it sits deep inside the system menu.
Block a Phone Number from Call History
If the same unknown caller keeps turning up in your call log, that's rarely a coincidence. Many of these numbers belong to fake contests, surveys or robocall campaigns that dial repeatedly. Huawei lets you stop this directly from the call log entry, no separate blocklist app needed.
Enable Desktop Site in Browser
Websites open in a scaled-down mobile layout on your Huawei phone, and some buttons or menus stay hidden because of that. Online banking portals, admin panels or older shop systems often only show their full feature set once the desktop layout loads. The browser normally switches back to mobile view on its own after you close the tab or leave the page.
Turn Mobile Data On or Off
If apps stop loading data outside Wi-Fi range or your phone shows no internet connection away from home, mobile data is likely switched off or an app is blocking background data. Huawei phones separate the mobile data toggle from Wi-Fi, so turning it off cuts cellular internet access completely once you leave a Wi-Fi network. A missing or wrong APN can cause the same symptom even when mobile data is already turned on.
Enable App Lock
If anyone can open your banking, messaging, or gallery app just by unlocking your phone, that app has no protection of its own. Huawei phones let you add a separate passcode or fingerprint check to specific apps, but the option is easy to miss because it sits inside the general security settings rather than inside each app.
Enable or Disable Advanced Visual Effects
Menus that fade in and out, icons that bounce, apps that animate on launch - these transition effects look nice but can make a Huawei phone feel sluggish, especially on older models. If your device lags while switching between screens or opening apps, the Advanced visual effects setting is often the reason.
Change the AP Band for Mobile Hotspot
Your Huawei phone hands out its mobile hotspot on 2.4 GHz by default, and that works with almost any WLAN device but slows things down once several gadgets share the same channel. Laptops, tablets or streaming sticks that support 5 GHz stay stuck on the slower band until you switch it manually. This shows up as sluggish transfers or buffering whenever more than one device connects to your hotspot at the same time.
Enable or Disable Object Tracking in Camera
When you tap a moving subject on the viewfinder and the focus box does not follow it, object tracking is likely switched off. With this option active, the camera keeps focus locked on the tapped subject even while you move your Huawei device or the subject shifts position.
Enable or Disable Flip to Mute
If a call or alarm keeps blaring while you are stuck in a meeting, Flip to mute can silence your Huawei phone the moment you turn it face down. The setting is not all-or-nothing though, since you can limit it to incoming calls, extend it to timers and alarms, or turn the whole motion control off. Get the toggle wrong and you either lose that quick silence trick or end up muting alarms you actually wanted to hear.
